Following the tradition of roots musicians going back generations, I build musical instruments with whatever I can get my hands on. Many well known blues musicians got their start on a homemade instrument. A lot of lesser known mountain folk never gave it up and got a lifetime of enjoyment out of instruments they built themselves.

I strive to retain the personality of the old "stick, box & wire" guitar while producing instruments that are a joy to play. Every guitar, banjo, ukulele, or dulcimer is hand built in my little garage in Minneapolis, MN using cigar boxes, tins, metal kitchenwares, hardware, reclaimed wood and just about anything I can find at a garage sale or thrift store that seems to have promise. I love to use materials that seem completely out of place on a musical instrument. Things that look comfortable in a kitchen or a crusty old tool box or grandpa's workshop give an instrument a unique feel that you just don't find in a mass produced guitar store instrument. Thanks to that wide variety of unusual materials, each instrument has a sound that is all its own.

Get back to the roots of blues and country music with a hand made Resist Instrument Works cigar box guitar. Each instrument is a piece of art that will look just as good hanging on your wall as it will sound in your hands.
